Grounded in the area’s heritage, this facility provides an optimal space for enhancing individual and community well-being.
Description
RLF collaborated with the YMCA of Central Florida and the Dr. Phillips Foundation to create the program and conceptual designs for the Leonard and Marjorie Williams Family YMCA. The new 30,000-square-foot facility is intended to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility while creating a space for community connection.
The Leonard and Marjorie Williams Family YMCA is located in a prominent area of the Packing District, a modern suburb in College Park, Florida, that was named in homage to the canning and packing plant built in the 1930s by citrus magnate Dr. Philip Phillips near Orange Blossom Trail and Princeton Street. Though the area currently boasts an eclectic mix of homes, businesses, restaurants, and retail—much of which was converted from industrial warehouse space—RLF’s environmental graphics team focused on reflecting the history of the Packing District in the design of the new facility.
The new YMCA includes a gateway to the park and bike/running paths throughout the property as well as administrative offices, a conference room, fitness spaces, a gymnasium, group exercise studios, locker rooms, a child development center, a Y café, and retail space. Additional features include a multi-use outdoor terrace overlooking the splashpad and lap pool.
Part of the redevelopment and revitalization of The Packing District supported by Dr. Phillips Charities, the new facility will provide the latest in healthy living equipment, classes, programs, and services for individuals and families in College Park and the surrounding communities.
