Radiation Oncology Clinic

LOC: Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS | GSF: 15,555 | SRVCS: A/E/I

Using natural elements, evidence-based design and sustainability as guiding principles, the 15,555-sq.-ft. Keesler Radiation Oncology Clinic provides a tranquil environment and sense of healing that weaves throughout the interior and exterior spaces of the treatment facility. Curved walls and natural light infuse the structure creating a serene and calming environment. Warm colors, patterns and materials further convey a relaxing atmosphere. The building is organized to create clear circulation for both patients and staff with art used as landmarks in the form of illuminated glass sculptures and water features.

The outdoor space is defined by a small garden that is open at each end to draw in patients, while separating the busy hospital from the tranquil setting of the treatment clinic. This space is bound by a solid curved wall that visually disconnects the clinic from the hospital, giving it an independent and unique identity. Garden spaces are strategically located adjacent to exam rooms and offices providing a natural and therapeutic backdrop into all clinical areas. A raised corridor connects the clinic lobby with the second floor of the adjacent hospital allowing connectivity and patient flow for inpatient and outpatient needs.
