Irwin Army Community Hospital

LOC:Fort Riley, KS | GSF:263,000 Hosp. / 289,000 Cl. | SRVCS:A/E/I

The new replacement hospital and clinic at Fort Riley incorporates the latest evidence-based design principles to create a world-class flagship hospital that supports the well being of patients and staff. Design features emphasize infection control, privacy, safety and family support such as acuity-adaptable patient beds to eliminate patient transfers, semi-decentralized nursing stations to minimize walking distances, and the inclusion of lounges, meditation rooms and healing gardens to increase social interaction and support of the whole person. Interior materials consisting of limestone, terrazzo and glass are woven together to create a cohesive interior environment that reflects the building’s architectural character. A neutral color palette, natural textiles and finishes, and picturesque scenes of native grasses, rolling hills and flora provide a calming and comforting environment that is conducive to healing.
