Ambulatory Care Addition, Federal Health Care Facility
The addition establishes a new gateway entrance into the hospital and revitalizes the facility’s image as a world-class healthcare provider. The design features a four-story atrium that originates on the main level and steps down into the basement through a grand stair. Clinical areas are located on both sides of the atrium and connect through a series of suspended bridges that simplify circulation flow while providing a visual connection between levels. Natural light floods the hall through clerestory openings and large windows maximize views to reduce stress and convey a healing environment for both visitors and staff. Rich, warm wood tones highlight the staircase and wall patterns while providing contrast to the neutral color pallet that is predominant throughout the atrium space. Interior and exterior architectural elements tie together through the use of color, texture, pattern and light creating a harmonious and comforting environment for patients, visitors and staff members.
