Pediatric Oncology and Dialysis Center
The new pediatric oncology center and dialysis center at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital creates a cheerful, comforting environment designed specifically for kids and their unique needs and sensibilities. The design incorporates whimsical imagery, bright colors and themed patterning to portray kid friendly, fun environments that minimize stress and generate smiles. Designed with Arnold Palmer in mind, the oncology center features a golf-course inspired space incorporating images of tropical Florida flora and fauna. Sculpted tree and plant forms integrate into nurse stations and flooring patterns portray elements of sand, water and grass. On the top level of the hospital, three-dimensional forms and playful wall, floor and ceiling graphics depicting beanstalks and puffy clouds cleverly illustrate the children’s classic, Jack and the Beanstalk. The 20-bed oncology unit includes a special room designed to house the new SOMATOM Definition Flash CT Scanner, the first unit in the world to be installed within a pediatric hospital. The equipment features the lowest dose and fastest scan speed on the market, allowing children to receive treatment with a fraction of the radiation dose and within a smaller time frame.
